An Ode to Adoption

They come in short
They come in tall
Big ones
 Small ones
We've got 'em all!

There's black ones
Yellow ones
And brindles, too
They're all here waiting just for you!

But if purrs and meows are what you're after
it's in the cat adoption rooms they roam
hoping and wishing
someone gives them a fur-ever home!
At the Humane Society of Scott County
you just can't lose
there are pets galore
almost too many to choose!

DON'T

4 Tails + 4 Walls = Gr8 Fun!

The four tails in our house were especially cute this weekend. Maybe they are excited for the fall weather?

(Berta) I'm on a float!!

I'm not exactly ready for these days to be over with, but I guess it was inevitable. Bring on football season (although that has brought me a great deal of heartache already), sweatshirts and cuddling on the couch.

Speaking of cuddling (or huddling, if done while watching football), here's the pets' weekend in a snapshot:

Izzy discovered that Berta is not only a shadow, but a great pillow!

Bird's eye view of the snuggling furballs.

Wrigley isn't ready to jump in the huddle, but he's watching from the sidelines.

So strange that Berta is asleep on the couch! ;)

Best fur-ends.

And then it gets cuter...

These two are just the cutest!

"Maybe if I walk on them they'll wake up and play with me."
(Note: They did not. See "World's Laziest Pets" post.)

What's black and white and flippin' adorable all over?
Kip & Izzy! Complete with a drywall dust-covered nose on Kip.

Wrigley is also black and white and adorable all over, especially when he's cuddling on daddy :)

Izzy looking just precious while cuddling on mommy.

Kip didn't want to be left out!

Cat nap champions.

And now back to the basement:

Berta sniffing for treasure.

We have walls!!! Ian did an incredible job hanging all the drywall, it looks great.

Kip giving his four-paws-up stamp of approval.

 HIGH-FIVE!!!

Something's Fishy & TGIF!

We had some happy pets last night...they got to snack on some salmon remnants from dinner and boy were they thrilled! (Meanwhile, pet-mom dined on two-day-old-leftovers, I'd say these guys are spoiled!) After their hot date with the fish, it was time to clean up.

(I imagine this is what Kim Kardashian's new kitten, Mercy, does 24/7 in an attempt to get the bronzer (and stench of fame-whoring) off her pretty, white fur.)

Berta enjoyed licking the plate. I think she likes game a little better than fish, but whatever.

Wrigley thought Kip still smelled a little fishy.

Kip decided to play with some drywall he carried upstairs in his mouth rather than get made fun of by Wrigley.

Another solid night at the Belby Zoo, always worth the price of admission!

Now, it's that time of the week again when some awesome adoptable pet(s) send you a TGIF greeting! This week's message is courtesy of James, Geoffrey and "Cat" (his/her name unknown...but he/she is so dang cute and has an equally adorable twin brother/sister ) all of whom can be found at the Humane Society of Scott County (Cat Room 3.)

Neck-warmers.

Kitty Kisses!!

A day in the life of a shelter volunteer :)

I am smitten with all three of these felines (you're shocked, I know), but little James is one of the most loving, personable cats ever! He wants to be on your lap (or your neck) at all times, just sweet as can be. :) He gets the TGIF snuggle bug award!

Sibling Love.

It exists in all species!

The Belby "kids" (well, two of them)

The Smith kids

Guess they're not so different after all :)

If Izzy could talk to Kip, I imagine it would sound something like this:

(more footage...just because it's really funny.)

Meanwhile:

Could those two be more immature? Seriously.

I'm too tired for this. Zzzzzzzz.

Cat Fight!

Big brother picking on little sister. Oh, the memories this brings back ;)

Say UNCLE!!

I'm telling mom!!

Not while I've got you in a headlock, you won't.

Where's my bodyguard when I need her!? Probably snoring away on the couch, some help she is.
MEEEEOMMMMMM!!!!!

World's Laziest Pets.

It's widely known that cats are lazy and like to sleep. A lot. But would you believe me if I told you the best sleeper in our house was the dog? Hard to believe, but Berta outsnoozes all the felines under our roof. (However, if you are lacing up your shoes, she will go from sound asleep to wide awake with her tail-a-waggin' in about 3.5 seconds.) Ahhh, the life of a dog.
But back to our lazy pets. See for yourself.
Kip doing a little light reading and heavy napping.

Now that's some serious sleeping! Could that pose get more hilarious? (Dang Ian's phone camera lens for being "fah-gee")

Kip likes to hang out of/off of things while he sleeps.

Izzy knocked herself out after cheering on the Hawks during her first Iowa football game.

Snuggle bug!

Izzy loves her Papa, he has big shoulders for her to sleep on!

Berta is not asleep here (obviously), but this definitely qualifies for the LAZY post. Berta decided that she'd had enough on our walk Saturday night, but we hadn't arrived home yet. So, what else could we do but carry her?! SUPER lazy. Lucky for Ian's arms, she caught a whiff of a rabbit (or whatever else gets her beagle nose on high alert) and wanted down about a block later. It was too funny not to photograph.

Sleeping kitty faces are precious.

Just chillin' in a size-too-small box. Actually, this shouldn't be in the lazy post, it probably took a lot of effort to squeeze in there!

Typical Berta pose.

Another typical day in the life of Miss Berta. I love that she uses pillows like a human :) And snores like one, too.

Another shoulder snooze for Izzy.

Berta was anxiously awaiting the release of Izzy from behind that closed door, but she wore herself out with anticipation.

Being a Belby pet is hard work!!
